One of the directors of Guernsey insurance company Falcon Insurance PCC Limited, was last night given The Insurance Institute of Guernsey’s ‘Award for Outstanding Service.’

The accolade was presented to Callum Beaton at an Insurance Institute of Guernsey dinner. It complements the President’s Award of the national body, the Chartered Insurance Institute, (CII) that he received in June this year.

Richard Battersby, the owner of Falcon Insurance PCC Limited, said: “I warmly congratulate Callum, as chairman of our board, on the award of these two thoroughly well-deserved honours. Falcon Insurance welcomes the practical expertise he brings to our decision-making, for the benefit of our company and our clients”.

The President’s Award is the equivalent of a lifetime achievement award and is only given when there is a suitably deserving candidate. Last year, for instance, no one received it. Speaking earlier this year, the president of the Chartered Insurance Institute, Julie Page, explained that Callum Beaton was being recognised for his significant and valuable contribution to the CII at a national, regional and local level over many years, including most recently as a member of the CII’s Board. She said it was a testament to his high professional standards and conduct over four decades in the insurance industry.

Callum Beaton began his career in the London markets, working in both underwriting and insurance broking. In the mid-1980s he focussed on the captive insurance sector, which he specialised in for just under twenty years. Since 2004, he has practised as an independent insurance consultant, and has mainly been involved with captive and cell captives. He has been an expert witness in a number of cases and regularly undertakes peer reviews of insurance and captive insurance programmes.

Callum Beaton is a director of the Guernsey protected cell company Falcon Insurance PCC Limited and holds directorships with a number of other captive and cell captive companies. He is also a member of a number of the Chartered Insurance Institute’s committees, principally centred on education in the insurance industry. He has received the Institute’s two highest awards for writing, namely the Rutter Medal in 2008 for a dissertation on captive insurance and risk financing and the Morgan Owen Medal in 2011 for his essay on corporate governance and captive insurance.

Callum Beaton served a three-year term as a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute’s board until June 2020.
