The snowy weather may have delayed World Book Day but it was powerless to stop it.
Volunteers from Ashburton Investments got into the literary spirit by dressing up as their favourite book character alongside children and teachers at Springfield Primary School in St Helier.
Despite being two weeks overdue, there were magicians, foxes, wizards and superheroes celebrating the literary world.
As part of Every Child Our Future, a Channel Islands charity, local businesses including Ashburton go into local schools to read with children once a week which helps with comprehension, confidence and ability.
By giving extra attention at an earlier stage of education, children who may have been struggling previously have shown remarkable improvements in the year and a half since the scheme was started in Jersey.
Simon Finch, Investment Manager at Ashburton Investments, said: “we started reading with the children in 2016 and during our time with them we have seen the progress that they have made through the Every Child Our Future programme”.
“The teachers are also telling us that the extra help is really paying dividends“.
