Diners at Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa will be switching on their taste buds as the lights go out in Tassili next weekend.
The AA Five Star hotel in St Helier has come up with a unique way to celebrate and raise awareness of Earth Hour on Saturday 24 March.
As the spotlight is on climate change, guests in the three AA Rosette restaurant will be dining in the dark for this intense culinary experience, enjoying their dinner under black silk blindfolds, before indulging in a special sensory cocktail.
The surprise seven course tasting menu, prepared by Executive Chef, Nicolas Valmagna is also staying under wraps but is designed so that guests will re-discover and appreciate different foods, awakening their sense of taste and smell.
Nicolas said, “I think sometimes we eat half our meals with our eyes and tend to forget about the flavours. Eating in the dark will heighten all the other senses so people can experience and enjoy all the different aromas, flavours and textures on the menu.
“It’s a great challenge for our kitchen team too as we have to carefully consider all the elements of the dish and adapt the presentation so that all the flavours are together in one mouthful.”
The wines for the evening have been perfectly paired for each course by Tassili’s Restaurant Manager Kirstie Thorpe-Jones and guests can expect nothing less than exceptional service thanks to her passion and expertise.
Earth Hour was created as a global environmental awareness event over a decade ago and has since become an annual event encouraging sustainable living.
