Four Highlands College art students have designed a mural with artist Sami Osman, known as Kumo, that will be displayed on the Le Masurier Merchants Square hoardings on Bath Street.

The artwork will be displayed when the new Moneypenny Lane sign is uncovered on Friday 22nd October. 8-year-old Charlotte Woodman, who won the competition to name the new street, will be unveiling the sign on Moneypenny Lane at 2 o’clock and the Premier Inn mural will be on display until Merchants Square is completed.

The mural is a tribute to film and a celebration of Jersey as a destination.

Kumo, the artist said “It has been fantastic to work with the Highlands College art students on this project. We have incorporated a number of different elements into this artwork. The new James Bond movie has just been released in cinemas and as the street is named after a character in the Bond movies, as well as Mr Moneypenny, who was the former Odeon cinema’s manager, it was clear that we needed to include these elements into the artwork. It also promotes Jersey and of course all that Premier Inn has to offer its customers.”

Abigale Neves, Highlands College art student, said “I found this experience to be an exciting opportunity to contribute my ideas for the Premier Inn hoarding on Bath Street. It was fun to be involved in this community project and it will be a great addition to my CV.”

Matt Case, Regional Operations Manager, Premier Inn, said: “This event marks a milestone on our journey to bring our second Premier Inn to Jersey. It is exciting to see the artwork that has been created and all the hard work that has gone into designing it and bringing it to life. As well as being part of this great community initiative, we are really looking forward to our new hotel opening in spring 2022.

“Our existing hotel in St Helier has proven to be very popular since it opened in 2018 and with our newest hotel we are able to create new jobs and opportunities for the people who live In Jersey, as well as welcoming even more visitors to enjoy everything that Jersey has to offer.”

Brian McCarthy, Managing Director, Le Masurier said: “We’re excited for the opportunity to work with Premier Inn who bring a mark of confidence in the Island’s tourism industry. The initiative has enabled students to showcase their talent and bring Bath Street to life as we continue to redevelop the area” He continued “Opening a second Premier Inn will allow visitors to stay in the heart of town and with a brand new restaurant opening next door, Bath Street will become a must-visit area of St Helier.”
