ArtHouse Jersey’s latest pop-up art exhibition series is with local artist John Syvret on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd October at Greve de Lecq Barracks, between 10am and 5pm.

John Syvret, ArtHouse Jersey’s oldest pop-up artist to date, has lived in the Greve de Lecq area for over eight decades. He will be displaying a broad selection of his own work inspired by his love of nature and of his birthplace, Jersey.

A significant part of the exhibition will also focus on paintings and drawings of Greve de Lecq. This is his second solo art exhibition.

John is a former pupil of Hautlieu School who couldn’t be kept out of the art room, gained praise for his drawings in both biology and geography. He eventually went on to become a graphic design artist with the Jersey Evening Post for many years.

He spent most of his childhood days at ‘Grève’ and has a very special affinity with the bay. He held the post of the Greve de Lecq Boat Owners Association for some 38 years until he retired recently, but he can still be seen there most days. He is also a fluent Jèrriais speaker, like all his family before him.

“This is only the second solo exhibition I have ever put on,” said John. “People see various signs I have designed for retail outlets and often mention that they recognise my work and illustrations – as an artist you develop your own unique style. For instance you can quickly recognise the work of Edmund Blampied, who for me was possibly one of the most talented artists Jersey has ever seen. If you find time to visit my exhibition, I will be on hand to explain the various techniques I used to produce ‘Pen, Pencil & Brush’.”

Alongside the artwork will be several old photographs and artefacts relating to Greve de Lecq that John has accumulated over the years.

ArtHouse Jersey Pop Up: Pen Pencil & Bruch by John Syvret takes place over Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd October at ArtHouse Jersey’s HQ at Greve de Lecq Barracks between 10am and 5pm each day.
