Lloyds Bank Foundation helps Jersey Centre Point Trust

Two managers at Centre Point Trust have completed a Level 3 Award in Education and Training thanks to funding from Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands.

Both Graeme Fitchett and Rob Crawford are now the only play work scheme managers in the Channel Islands to achieve this qualification, and will see them fit and able to deliver the Level 3 Award Diploma course, in conjunction with Dee Hansford (who is the assessor employed by Centre Point), to local play workers in the future.

They were able to achieve this by being a part of the delivery process of the course held by Meynell Walter, from Meynell Games in Eastbourne.

Throughout 2017 up to 12 local play workers took part in the course hosted at the Trust’s Play Care Centre at La Pouquelaye. Play workers taking part in the course had to pass various assessments held by the instructor which included play types, spaces, and principles as well as reporting issues, laws, policies and procedures.

Reflecting on the importance of having this course in Jersey, Jane Moy, CEO, Centre Point Trust, said: “This course was extremely important for two reasons – firstly, Centre Point, as with other play care providers, strives to provide the best possible care for the children we look after and to enable us to do this, we need to ensure that our staff are fully trained and qualified.”

Jo Le Poidevin, Executive Director, Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands visited the final session of the course and met with the course trainer and the various play workers who have successfully passed. She commented; “It was excellent to see all the individuals who were able to take advantage of this rare opportunity in Jersey to become qualified play workers. An opportunity like this gives local play care centres the opportunity to raise the standards of their play care workers and ultimately benefits the children. Even more exciting is the potential to hold more courses like this one locally in the future without having to rely on UK trainers to come to the Channel Islands.”
