Guernsey’s KGV Playing Fields call for help answered by Skipton

Skipton International has responded to the call for help at Guernsey’s KGV Playing Fields by offering support from its Community Fund to replace broken benches and chairs.

The venue suffered damage by over-exuberant football ‘fans’ who attended last Tuesday night to watch England beat Germany 2-0 in the Euros.

An estimated 800 people gathered at the playing fields and a small minority took their celebrations a little too far, damaging wooden tables and benches, and some of the decking on the balcony, something which KGV director, Mark Latter, said was extremely disappointing.

The Skipton Community Fund was launched in 2018 with the aim of supporting smaller charities and good causes across the Channel Islands. To date it has donated over £100,000 to 177 projects.

Aaron Walden is Commercial Manager at Skipton. He said: “The KGV is a popular community sporting venue and many of our staff and their families use it on a regular basis. The whole Skipton team was disappointed to see the damage that had been caused after Tuesday’s football match and wanted to do something to help.

“Skipton seeks to add value back to the communities in which it operates, so it seemed the ideal opportunity for us to step in and help replace the broken furniture for the benefit of everyone to enjoy in the future.”

Mark Latter, Director of the KGV Playing Fields said: “We have been so lucky with offers of support from many individuals, but this offer from Skipton really has blown me away. I cannot thank everyone at Skipton enough for this kind offer of help, which will enable us to make good every single item that was damaged.”
