Staff from fund administrator Saltgate have collectively walked over 65 million steps to celebrate the memory of Chris Fisher, a Saltgate colleague who sadly died this year.
120 colleagues from across the company’s three offices in Jersey, London and Luxembourg walked the distance – equivalent to walking round the circumference of the world – as part of the Destination GO challenge.
This 9-week challenge from Virgin Pulse encourages people to become more active by setting team competitions and daily step-count goals. The challenge also includes activities to improve general wellbeing, such as changes to diet, and ways to boost mental health.
Teams of up to seven people competed with each other – with Saltgate’s winning team, ‘Chasing Bubbles’, taking the top spot with almost 8.5 million steps.
Through the competition, Saltgate raised over £10,000 for Myeloma UK – a charity that offers support and education to help people live well with myeloma, a blood cancer.
Ali French (pictured), Saltgate’s chief people officer, says: “This challenge showed an amazing level of engagement and commitment from people across all our offices. They literally went the extra mile – getting active and walking through all weathers to celebrate Chris’s memory and raise money for charity. It’s an incredible achievement.”
Simon Riley, Saltgate’s CEO, says: “I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved. As a company, we’ve walked around 35,000 miles, or 55,000 km, which is an average of 630,000 steps for every player in the competition. There’s a real spirit of camaraderie, and it was great to see so many people engaging with this and supporting each other.
“Chris was well-liked across Saltgate, and was known for his enthusiasm and sporting ability, so this feels like an appropriate way to honour him, and raise money for a charity close to his family’s heart.”
