GreenAcres resident gets mobile thanks to Mourants and YPush

Guernsey’s Specialist Dementia Care Home, GreenAcres now has a revolutionary new type of wheelchair which enables residents to go out for walks with their families, thanks to a donation from Mourant.

The ‘Ypush‘ can offer less mobile relatives and carers the freedom and flexibility to take loved ones outside of the GreenAcres setting, by reducing the need for the wheelchair to be pushed.

The electronic wheelchair, which was designed by Guernsey entrepreneur Brian Harrison, is controlled by buttons which turn it on and off, move it forward, turn it around and brake.

Mourant Guernsey’s Charities Committee donated £2500 for the purchase of the Ypush. Guernsey Managing Partner, John Lewis said as a firm, Mourant is always keen to support the community and the Ypush meets its aims of encouraging both physical and mental wellbeing.

“Many of us will know someone whose life has been affected by conditions which can limit mobility, so when it was suggested that our Charities Committee make a donation to buy the Ypush it was considered to be a great idea. We’re all impressed by the work of GreenAcres, so we wanted to support them to help their residents enjoy life as much as possible. I’m glad to see it is already benefiting the people who have had a chance to use it so far.”

Director and Care Manager of GreenAcres, Moira Boyd said: “The Ypush is a great addition to our Home as it means our residents can enjoy outings with family members who may otherwise struggle to push an ordinary wheelchair.

“Thank you to Mourant for donating it and supporting our efforts at GreenAcres.”
