Highvern are supporting Mind Jersey this Mental Health Awareness Week (10th to 16th May) as the charity launches a programme of events to help more people derive mental wellbeing benefits from reconnecting to nature.

The week-long series of sunset walks, beach and forest cleans, and gardening chats are all free of charge and aim to provide a relaxed atmosphere for people to learn about mindfulness techniques and interaction with nature.

45% cite green open spaces as vital for their mental health

Research has shown that getting out for a walk was one of the top coping strategies during the pandemic, with 45% of UK respondents citing green open spaces as vital for our mental health.

Mind Jersey ise inviting us to explore more of the island with them as well as learning more about the support services the charity can offer and the vital work they do on the island.

Hugo Forrester, Operations Manager at Mind Jersey, said: “We are so grateful to Highvern for reaching out to us and offering their support during MHAW21. The last 14 months have brought new challenges to the lives of many; however, nature has always been there and many people have found solace by connecting with the outdoors.

“We are hosting a range of safe, supported, unique activities exploring the incredibly positive impact that nature can have on our mental health, all of which are complimented by a nice cup of tea and a piece of cake, kindly provided by Highvern!”

Paula Hegarty, Head of HR and Facilities Management at Highvern, said: “We are very proud to be supporting Mind Jersey at a time when we recognise that many peoples’ mental health will have been impacted. As well as providing Mind Jersey with financial support for Mental Health Awareness Week, our staff will be actively taking part in the events, attending mindfulness walks and contributing home-baked goods.

“Mental wellbeing is the responsibility of all employers and our business continues to evolve to accommodate what works best for our team as a whole as well as staff’s individual circumstances. We hope that as many people as possible take the opportunity to join in with the week’s activities to better equip themselves with the tools to help in times of stress and upheaval.”

With events scheduled during lunchtimes and after working hours, the programme invites people to take a break from the office to join in and learn more about managing their mental health.
