Climb LBG’s successful application to the Skipton Community Fund has allowed them to provide a weekly indoor climbing session at Les Voies school.

Climb LBG is a Guernsey-registered charity that provides climbing, hill walking and mountaineering activities, giving everyone the opportunity to experience these activities and benefit from the positive impact they can have on physical, social and emotional well-being.

£1500 was donated from the Skipton Community Fund to cover the costs of the initiative.

Chris Harvey, Director of Climb LBG said: “It is fantastic to be working with Les Voies to provide a weekly indoor climbing session with their young people. It has been great to see how excited the boys were to return to climbing after the lockdown. I was really impressed by how they had retained their skills over this long period and how they couldn’t wait to use them again. We are really grateful to the Skipton Community Fund for supporting us in this initiative.”

Max Hunter, teacher at Les Voies, said: “We are really grateful for Skipton’s support this year. Climb LBG is a fantastic charity and we are really benefitting from Chris’ expertise. The benefits of exercise are well known, so to have the financial support to allow our students to reap these benefits whilst also granting them access to an activity they may have initially never accessed is fantastic. We have students well on their way to completing their NICAS Awards, and showing great potential and enthusiasm to take this activity and qualifications further.”

Other local good causes that have successfully applied to the Skipton Community Fund recently include The Accidental Zoo and Guernsey’s 20-bed Dementia unit, Corbiere ward. More information on these, plus others, will be announced in due course.

Aaron Walden, Commercial Manager at Skipton International said: “The Skipton Community Fund was created to assist those smaller charities that may often be overlooked when seeking external funding. Skipton looks to shine a light on these not for profit projects which will ultimately benefit the community and enrich our islands.”
