New independent financial services consulting business launches

The launch of a new business, ‘Sabre Advisory’, aims to deliver new, independent consulting expertise for financial services firms

Two financial services consultants have launched a new business, Sabre Advisory, to help local financial services businesses deal with the challenges of operating in the current environment, with the promise of combining their expertise and experience with a more personal touch.

Julian Burrows and Stephen McAlister formed the business having previously worked together in the local office of a global consultancy firm.  There they worked with global clients, specialising in advising, consulting, and delivering projects for financial services firms within International Finance Centres (IFCs), including the Channel Islands, Dublin and Luxembourg.

  • Julian is a Chartered Accountant of ten years, a Chartered Manager, and a Fellow Member of the IoD, with over fifteen years’ experience, including as Head of Private Equity Fund Administration for a large global administrator.
  • Stephen is a highly-qualified change leader, with a background in IT project delivery within global and offshore financial services. Alongside over two decades of experience spanning front, middle and back office, he holds qualifications from the Association for Project Management (APM), Prince 2 and Managing Successful Programs (MSP).

Announcing the official launch of Sabre, Stephen told Channel Eye: “The global environment for financial services businesses is a challenging one, from strategic misalignment between business’ ambitions and abilities, an ever-changing regulatory environment and an urgent desire to go digital.

“It’s understandable that tackling complex or strategic problems often takes a back seat to demanding day-to-day operations. We can bring expertise, experience and resources to bear on the situation, which really helps our clients to effect positive change and realise their potential.”

Explaining their decision to start their own company, Julian added: “We decided to form Sabre as an owner-managed and completely independent company, so that each of our clients and partners have a direct relationship with us.  This means that, far from working with a ‘faceless’ organisation, you get personalised attention. We believe this sets us apart, makes us different and accountable, and ultimately achieves better results for our clients.”

Sabre offers four core services: project management & project management office (PMO), strategic direction & change management, technology selection, implementation & optimisation and regulatory change & compliance.
