Business leaders to quiz Jersey’s Chief Minister on tax, population and education

Jersey’s Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst, and the new States Chief Executive, Charlie Parker, are to face questions from business leaders at the inaugural Institute of Directors’ Mid-Year Review.

The event, which is sponsored by Carey Olsen and will take place at the Pomme d’Or Hotel on Tuesday 6 March from 8am, will see the island’s most senior politician and civil servant outline their visions for the public sector, discuss the key opportunities and challenges they see for Jersey in the coming year, and answer questions from the audience.

With the aim of holding Ministers to account and ensuring intelligent debate ahead of May’s general election, the session will also look back on the key points made at the IoD Annual Debate in September last year.

IoD Jersey chairman Chris Clark will question the pair and moderate the event.

He said: “We had some really lively and frank discussions at our Annual Debate last year, and it’s important that we don’t just leave some of the issues and ideas that were raised there in isolation, but that we keep up the momentum and continue to press for a positive way forward that can benefit us all.”

“We’re in a really interesting phase in terms of politics in Jersey at the moment, given it is an election year and that there is renewed impetus in public sector reform, so we are looking forward to an interesting session, and I’m extremely grateful to our Chief Minister Senator Ian Gorst and States of Jersey Chief Executive Charlie Parker for giving their time.”

Places for the Mid-Year Review on 6 March, from 8am to 10am at the Pomme D’Or Hotel, cost £15 for members and £20 for non-members including breakfast, and can be booked here.
