The Government of Jersey’s first Annual Procurement Report shows that just under 60% of the £231 million spent with the top 100 suppliers in 2020 was with on-Island companies.

The Minister for Treasury and Resources, Deputy Susie Pinel, has released the data following a States Assembly vote in 2020 which required the Government to provide a breakdown of its use of on-Island and off-Island companies.

The report shows that the breakdown of spending by location is as follows:

Location Total spent % of total
Jersey £136,472,169 59.0%
United Kingdom £90,694,207 39.2%
New Zealand £1,363,659 0.6%
United States £927,631 0.4%
Netherlands £905,752 0.4%
Ireland £815,031 0.4%
Total £231,178,449 100%

Four of the top five suppliers were based in Jersey: these four companies accounted for £20.8 million of the total contracts awarded. These suppliers included construction companies working on Grainville and Les Quennevais schools, delivering the Nightingale Wing, and the firm which runs the Liberty Bus service.

Treasury and Resources Minister, Deputy Susie Pinel, said: “This first procurement report shows that the Government has been supporting our local economy during this difficult time by procuring vital goods and services from many on-Island companies.

“The report also reflects the impacts that COVID-19 had on our procurement spend in 2020, when many items had to be bought at speed to ensure we were fully equipped to meet the demands imposed on us by the pandemic.”
