Many on the island of Jersey know the story of this strong young lady – Agi was diagnosed with cancer five years ago, in January this year she was told there is no more that can be done and she should prepare to go to the Hospice.

Agnieszka Mastalerz

Agi, whose full name is Agnieszka Mastalerz, works as a Trust Officer at EFG Wealth Management but is unable to work at the moment.  She has been battling cancer for five years  She has had two major surgeries including a hysterectomy followed by a very difficult course of chemotherapy.

Agi was told in March 2016 that she would only live for another five years, but Agi is determined to find a way to get better.  She has been told by an oncologist that there is no cure for her, because the cancer has spread from her colon into her liver and pelvic part of her body, but Agi is a fighter and says “I won’t give up!”

Agi believes that whilst you are still alive there is always a chance.  She spoke to many people and looked at alternative ways to cure cancer.  Her own research found a place in Mexico called the Oasis Hospital which runs a four-week alternative treatment plan.  Alternative medicine was not covered by her medical insurance, so she managed to raise over £33,000 with the help of over 1100 generous islanders to enable her to go to Mexico and take the course of treatment.

Agi was admitted to the Oasis Hospital on 8th of March to start her four-week course.  Because she has stage four cancer and potentially only a few months left to live, the treatment course was not easy for her.  There were many complications during the course, but she made it until the end.  Unfortunately the funds she raised have all been spent on treating the various complications during the course of treatment.

Two days before she was due to leave hospital, Agi was struggling to breath.  After several tests and x-rays it was confirmed she has developed pneumonia, which meant she could not fly home to start her home treatment.  Unfortunately, due to Agi’s low immune system, the pneumonia worsened and to give her the best chance of survival, the Oasis Hospital had to put Agi into an induced comma while the pneumonia is treated.

Agi is currently in the intensive care unit at the Oasis Hospital and she could be in a comma for several days.  Her chances are thought to be ’50/50′ right now.

Being in intensive care is expensive, and when she gets through the pneumonia she will need to stay in hospital for an extended period until she is fit enough to fly home.

A GoFundMe page has been setup to help raise funds to support Agi through this vital time, so she can get back to fighting cancer and inspiring people.  Agi cannot carry on with her fight without financial support.

Please help Agi’s fight for survival.  To quote Agi, “it is never over until its over”.
