In its 50th anniversary year, the Association of Jersey Charities is encouraging island charities to nominate their outstanding achievements and individuals as it launches the 2021 Jersey Charity Awards.

Designed to highlight professionalism and excellence within the charitable sector and to celebrate charities’ recent achievements and best practice, the Awards were first established ten years ago and are held every two years. This year they are supported by the Ana Leaf Foundation and Jersey Finance, who have partnered with the AJC this year as part of its own celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of the island’s finance industry.

There are three categories for this year’s Awards; Outstanding Achievement for a Large Charity, Outstanding Achievement for a Medium Charity and Outstanding Achievement for a Small Charity, with a £5,000 prize for the winner of each category as well as prizes for two runners up.

The Awards will be judged by an independent panel, who will be looking for examples of excellence, together with ideas and leadership that will inspire and from which others can learn. Winners will be announced at a special virtual Awards Tea Party on Sunday 12 September, with the event also providing an opportunity celebrate the AJC’s 50th anniversary.

The Awards are open to any Jersey-based charity that has registered with the Charity Commission. Island charities whose work is based overseas are also eligible to enter. Chairman of the Association of Jersey Charities, Kevin Keen, said:

“The Jersey Charity Awards have become a key fixture in the charity sector in Jersey over the past decade and have provided a fantastic opportunity to showcase the hugely impressive work charitable organisations, large and small, do to support the local community. So many people work and volunteer for charities without thinking of seeking recognition and if it wasn’t for the charitable sector, Jersey would be a much poorer place.

“Of course, this year’s Awards are particularly significant – as well as taking place in our 50th anniversary year, the past twelve months have been particularly challenging, with local charities showing a huge amount of agility and resilience to manage and overcome the fallout of the pandemic. Now more than ever we need to acknowledge the value charities add to island life and I’m looking forward to a broad cross section of charities entering our Awards this year”.

Joe Moynihan, CEO of Jersey Finance, added: “The slogan for our own anniversary celebrations this year is ‘together we shine’, a notion based on the firm belief that working together and collaborating is the best way of achieving success. With that in mind, and reflecting the commitment of our industry to the local community, I’m delighted to be partnering with the AJC this year both to support the Jersey Charity Awards and to help raise significant funds for local charities over the coming months”.

Nominations can be made by completing the application form available here with a closing date for submissions of Monday 31 May 2021.
