Walkers is offering sixth form students in Guernsey the chance to gain a real insight into the world of work whether in financial services, other important local industries or as an entrepreneur in a week-long Business School running this summer.
Walkers’ Business Summer School will run every afternoon from Monday 12 to Friday 16 July, and has been created to offer young people the opportunity to learn about life in the workplace and the varied different career paths available in Guernsey, including setting up a business.
The course, will feature a mock board meeting; sessions with accountants, fiduciaries and bankers, a mock trial before a real judge, an overview of Guernsey law; and a ‘Meet the Entrepreneurs’ session. Members of Walkers own team, especially the younger lawyers, will be available throughout to share their own experiences in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
Walkers partner Alison Ozanne said: “We want this to be a highly informative and immersive experience that is as accessible as possible – we are not looking for polished CVs , just a simple, short statement from the candidate about how they would hope to benefit from attending.
“There are some amazing career opportunities for young people in Guernsey but young people need to be given the chance to understand and discuss the options. That is what we aim to achieve with the Walkers Business Summer School, and we look forward to seeing as many applications as possible from young Islanders who would like to be involved”.
