More than 1,000 people have now donated and helped the amount raised to soar above the original target of £29,000.

Agi, whose full name is Agnieszka Mastalerz, works as a Trust Officer at EFG Wealth Management but is unable to work at the moment.  She has been battling cancer for five years  She has had two major surgeries including a hysterectomy followed by a very difficult course of chemotherapy.

Agi was told in March 2016 that she would only live for another five years, but Agi is determined to find a way to get better.

She has been told by an oncologist that there is no cure for her, because the cancer has spread from her colon into her liver and pelvic part of her body, but Agi is a fighter and says “I won’t give up!”

Through her research, Agi discovered the Oasis of Hope Hospital in Tijuana, Mexico, which provides alternative cancer treatments, including a Vitamin B17 injection.  Agi believes that this will support her body.

The alternative treatment is not recognised or covered by Jersey or the UK’s health services. neither is it covered by Agi’s health insurance, hence the fund raising.

Agi was already in London on Friday when the target was reached and was ready to board the next available flight to Mexico as soon as the target was reached.

She is now in Mexico, having arrived on Monday. She’s being taking care of at the clinic and the doctors have high expectations as to the effects of the treatment.

Agi tells us: “it is normally me asking how I can help others, by organizing wellbeing events to raise funds for the charities I support.  But today it is me needing help for myself.  I would be so grateful for support as time is ticking and I have so much more to give.  I want to get back to doing what I do best, living life to the fullest!”

Funds raised over the initial target will be donated to the charities close to Agi’s heart, that she, herself, supported:

  • Jersey Children – a charity dedicated to helping sick children and their families in Jersey
  • Londoloza Trust – an emerging conservation and development partner, supporting initiatives aimed at tackling environmental, conservation and socio-economic challenges through sustainable interventions. They also support underprivileged children in disadvantaged areas of Zimbabwe through education along with improving school facilities.
  • Rycerze i Księżniczki The Polish ‘Knights and Princesses’ Foundation aims to help those who are struggling with extremely serious and difficult-to-treat diseases, those waiting for difficult or expensive medical treatments, and their families.
