Did you see the living room in Jersey’s Royal Square?

It wasn’t a scene from Love Island or the Real Housewives of Jersey (which were suggestions on Acorn’s Facebook page!)… It was to draw attention to climate change.

Acorn

On Thursday 4th March, Acorn Reuse and Jersey’s Climate Conversation joined together to raise awareness of the fact that buying pre-owned furniture and clothes is a great way to reduce your personal environmental impact.

Each item was labelled with information about the environmental impact of buying new or secondhand.

For example, It would take 13 years to drink the amount of water needed to make one t-shirt and one pair of jeans.

Acorn fundraising manager Caroline Spencer (shown in the main picture) said: “Manufacturing and disposing of all these everyday items has a cost in terms of energy and raw materials.  People sometimes think they can’t contribute to slowing down climate change, but they can.  The more people that do it, the greater the effect it will have.

“It just goes to show that buying reused items from a store like Acorn is a smart and sustainable thing to do – while also providing work opportunities for people who have a disability or long-term health condition.”
