Jersey, the next glamourous location for Love Island?

Hit TV series Love Island could be filmed in Jersey this year, as an alternative destination for this year’s show.

The back-up location is being considered amid concerns over the Covid travel restrictions that may still be in place this summer.

ITV bosses have settled on the island of Jersey as an alternative venue for this summer’s Love Island – in case the show cannot be staged in Majorca as planned.

Jersey is well known for it’s sunshine, endless sandy beaches and glamourous locations, as featured in the Real Housewives of Jersey and Bergerac TV series.

Jersey is the ‘sunniest place in the UK’, with a total of 2,298 hours of sunshine measured – more than 200 hours ahead of the next sunniest places in the UK.  The temperature typically hits highs of 33c degrees, although normally settling closer to a more comfortable 20c degrees.

Producers of the Love Island series are keen to return to Mediterranean Majorca for the Spanish sunshine, but if Covid travel restrictions make it too complicated for the show to be staged there, the beautiful island of Jersey has been chosen as the back-up location.

The series host, Laura Whitmore has said that there is no shortage of wannabe contestants for this summer’s series: “We’ve had more applications than ever – there’s a lot of people that want to do Love Island and there’s a lot of people that want to watch it.”

Last year, both the summer and winter versions of Love Island were cancelled because of the Covid pandemic, but now TV bosses are keen to ‘get the show on the road’ for the loyal fans.  The team are determined to bring the ITV2 show back, one way or another.

One Love Island fan said: “I have missed Love Island so much and for it to be filmed in Jersey would be amazing.  The island looked so gorgeous during the Real Housewives of Jersey – it would be the perfect setting”.

A final decision over which location to use is expected to be made within days.
