Jersey Cheshire Home is delighted to confirm the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer. Mrs Donna Abel will succeed Mr David Lord on his retirement at the end of 2020.

Donna is no stranger to the Jersey Cheshire Home having been involved in fundraising activities since 2011, including through participation in three of the Jersey Cheshire Home treks to Iceland, Patagonia and Jordan and has signed up to Trek Borneo in 2021. Donna is highly qualified professionally and is a Chartered Fellow of the Management Institute of Personnel Development, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management, and holds an Institute of Directors Certificate as well as diplomas in coaching, mentoring and psychology among others. As a strategic leader with significant commercial experience, Donna will bring a vast range of valuable skills to her new role.

Donna said: “I am delighted to be appointed CEO of the Jersey Cheshire Home. It is important to me to do what makes you happy and this role provides me with a real opportunity to make a meaningful difference. Together with the fantastic team already in situ, we will continue to drive continuous improvement for a truly people centred Home built on a culture of care, and one which genuinely feels like a home; full of fun, love and laughter. As a facility and a charity that cares for some of Jersey’s most physically disabled, my role as CEO will be to fulfil the mission of the Home which is to enhance lives.”

Donna succeeds David Lord whose long-term relationship with the Home stretches back over 30 years. During this time, David has held various positions within the charity both as a past Chairman, but more lately as General Manager. Although he is officially retiring, David plans to stay involved in the organisation that has been part of his life for decades.

David commented: “This is a very exciting time for the Home. Donna will be a fantastic addition to the team, bringing with her huge amounts of people skills garnered through her long-term career in Human Resources. I am thrilled that the Home has been able to recruit someone of Donna’s ability and excited by what the future holds for the Jersey Cheshire Home.”

On behalf of the Jersey Cheshire Home Foundation Committee, Chairman Jim Hopley expressed his gratitude to David for his long and effective service. He welcomes Donna to multi-faceted life at the Home, expressing the relief it has in securing the services of such suitable person to take the Charity’s mission forward.
