Ravenscroft has appointed Nigel Smith as its first business development consultant in Jersey as the investment services business continues to grow its presence in the island.

Before moving to Jersey in 2014, Mr Smith spent 32 years in the forces including operational tours in Northern Ireland, Africa and Iraq achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

He was awarded a Queen’s Commendation for Bravery. Since arriving in the island, he has taken on a number of voluntary roles including CEO of Ora Charitable Trust, and chair of both the Jersey Community Partnership and ABF The Soldiers’ Charity (Jersey).

“I have been a very satisfied client of Ravenscroft for a number of years and now take great pleasure in becoming a member of the team. I like the wide array of investment choices offered to clients and being part of a well-motivated and professional team”, he said.

“Being part of a leading investment services firm with specific focus on the Channel Islands is a great opportunity and one I firmly believe makes Ravenscroft stand out in the local marketplace. I am especially looking forward to meeting clients old and new and earning their trust whilst working with Ravenscroft to deliver integrity, transparency and accountability as part of a very personal and private client service”.

Mr Smith, who has completed the Marathon Des Sables, visited Base Camp Everest and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, said he hoped to bring a different perspective to Ravenscroft.

“The main challenge in my new role will be in reaching out to potential new clients and learning new skills in a different industry. The first couple of weeks have been very enjoyable and I am looking forward to the future at Ravenscroft with great enthusiasm”.

Haydn Taylor, managing director of Ravenscroft in Jersey, said the success of the business in recent years had led to Mr Smith’s appointment.

“The Jersey business has expanded considerably in recent years and we have a great team here who have a substantial and continually growing client base. In order to continue that growth, the time was right to appoint someone to focus further on business development and Nigel is the ideal person as he brings a fresh perspective, different and complementary skills and has a wide network of contacts within Jersey and further afield.

“This is an exciting time for Ravenscroft as a group as this year we have already acquired a business in the UK and opened an office in the Isle of Man while continuing to expand the services we offer in Guernsey and Jersey”.
