Edward Scott and Co, a new boutique Jersey legal practice has launched today, 3rd September, to advise on corporate and finance matters.
Edward Scott, the principal, describes the approach his practice is taking: “We work on complex transactions, most often across from top-ranking Jersey firms, but with a different approach. We work in small teams of experienced lawyers and this enables us to identify issues early and to draft accurately and efficiently.
“Our small teams fit neatly into the wider advisory team and cover both the corporate and finance aspects of a transaction, with all the efficiencies that brings”.
COVID-19 has created numerous business pressures and led many to question the de facto business norms, and law firms are no different. Edward explains how he feels his practice has already begun adapting to changing client demands.
“Clients are keener than ever to make sure that they are getting good value from service providers, as much in terms of the quality of service as the fee charged for it. Coronavirus has changed the way the financial services industry uses technology, such as the way documents are signed and how we communicate. Many clients would now prefer to talk to an experienced and responsive practitioner who is happy to use the available technology to make sure projects are completed efficiently.
“We pride ourselves on being readily contactable, highly responsive and on working collaboratively with the wider client and transaction team. The result is that over the years we have forged long-standing relationships with prominent investors, administrators and intermediaries who value our distinct approach”.
Kirsten Faichnie joins the practice as a Consultant. Kirsten was formerly a Senior Associate at Mourant and will help clients with their corporate and finance matters, and also with the funds regulatory side of structuring their investments.
Unlike most of the larger Jersey firms, Edward Scott and Co does not have a litigation department and so the practice is free of the conflicts of interest issues that litigation businesses give rise to.
Also, there is no administration business, so the practice does not compete with the Jersey administrators that it works alongside.
