Autism Jersey golf day raises record amount

Autism Jersey’s annual golf day, sponsored by JT, has been hailed a success after it broke fundraising records whilst navigating between two separate venues to meet health and safety requirements.

The popular golf competition raised over £35,000 for the charity, using technology to connect participants and celebrate the day’s results.

The event saw 18 teams of golfers compete at La Moye Golf Club on Friday 21 August with the overall winners being the Brewin Dolphin team, followed closely by a team from Santander in second place.

The awards presentation was held at both the La Moye Clubhouse and the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club in St Aubin using the latest audio-visual technology powered through JT’s full-fibre network to deliver a seamless awards presentation.

Nick Winsor, Chairman of Autism Jersey, said: “We are so thankful for everyone who took part in this event and are delighted to have raised a record-breaking total in such challenging times.

“Being able to host the prize giving between two venues actually lays the foundations for many charities to now host their events at multiple locations and we are extremely grateful to JT and Delta Events for their help in making this day a success”.

Last year’s golf day raised £30k, with funds from this year’s event going directly to rehoming the charity at Sans Souci, where they will be able to develop a bespoke multi-million-pound facility to support those on the island on the autism spectrum and their families.

JT’s on-going support of this annual event also means the new centre will benefit from the latest technology, ensuring visitors and carers can keep connected via state-of-the-art equipment, made possible by JT’s full-fibre network.

Daragh McDermott, Corporate Affairs Director at JT and a board member of Autism Jersey, said: “We have developed a long-term partnership with Autism Jersey and are honoured to be able to offer our support so that this event could take place when so many others have had to be cancelled.

“Not only was this an enjoyable social occasion for all involved, but an important chance to lend support and raise money for a very worthwhile cause”.
