Rupert Morris has been announced as the new chair of the Guernsey branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP Guernsey).
Advocate Morris is a partner and head of Walkers’ Private Capital & Trusts Team in Guernsey, and has almost 15 years’ practice as a private wealth specialist focusing on private client advisory and structuring work.
He was formerly the deputy chair of STEP Guernsey and also sits as the Guernsey branch representative on the STEP Worldwide Council. He has taken on the three year role of chair from Adèle Perrot, head of client services at Newhaven Global.
Rupert said: “The branch has been in capable hands under the leadership of Adèle for the past three years and as incoming chair I look forward to being able to build on her excellent work. As a branch, we are committed to continuing to provide professional development opportunities in the fiduciary sector.
“With over 870 local STEP members, we are a vibrant and dynamic arm of the organisation and are proud to be one of the most active of the global branches. The committee works hard to run a huge programme of local events throughout the year, including the popular annual Lecture Series, the STEP Annual Conference, our showstopping STEP Ball and many other networking events for Members, Students and the wider finance community.
“In addition the Technical Committee (combined with GAT) continues to challenge any threats to the sector as they arise. I am grateful to have a supportive and hard working branch committee to run what is without doubt, a hugely successful organisation”.
Taking on the role of deputy chair will be Greta Pender. Mrs Pender is a Client Service Director at Sequent and has 20 years’ experience in the Guernsey financial services industry working with high net worth individuals, administering complex structures crossing a number of jurisdictions, and working on assets from investment portfolios to art and yachts.
As well as being a STEP member, Greta is also an Associate of the Chartered Governance Institute. She is also a member of the STEP Professional Development Committee.
