20 Sept: RBC community challenge for health and wellbeing

RBC Super League Triathlon Jersey, together with the Government of Jersey, has taken the difficult decision to cancel this year’s event due to the continuing uncertainty around COVID-19.

To maintain the spirit and values of RBC Super League Triathlon Jersey we are excited to launch a Community Challenge open to everyone on the island which will promote health and wellbeing and engage local communities to raise funds for the island’s charities.

If the community can collectively log 20,000km of swimming, cycling, running or walking between 1 September and what would have been the race weekend of 20 September, RBC will donate £20,000 to Mind Jersey.

Super League Triathlon CEO, Michael D’hulst, said: “It is so disappointing to be unable to hold RBC Super League Triathlon Jersey this year. However, I am delighted that our partners continue to support the event and that we will be able to engage with the community without interruption. RBC Super League Triathlon Jersey will exist virtually this year and we would really love to see the community get involved.

“This challenge is for everybody, whether they are a triathlete or simply taking their dog for a walk. It’s about clocking up the distance as a community to secure a huge donation that will make a big difference to a charity that is more important than ever in these difficult times.

“I would like to thank all of our stakeholders, partners and the people of Jersey for their ongoing support. We hope this Community Challenge is embraced and we look forward to returning to Jersey for another event in 2021″.

David Bailey, COO, RBC Wealth Management, said: “Whilst disappointed we won’t see the world’s best triathletes in Jersey, RBC fully supports the decision to defer. Wellbeing is key to RBC’s values so we are very excited with the opportunity to support Islanders with a physical challenge which provides a benefit to mental health wellbeing”.

Senator Lyndon Farnham, Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport & Culture, said: “Super League Triathlon has become an important event for Jersey. It has made a significant contribution to increasing the tourism economy in the shoulder months and has successfully broadened Jersey’s global exposure as a world-class location for major sporting events. I am disappointed that we have had to cancel the event but look forward to working closely with Super League Triathlon and RBC as we plan their return in 2021″.
