Carey Olsen backs Jersey’s Island Games cycling team with kit sponsorship

Carey Olsen is sponsoring the kit of Jersey’s 2019 NatWest International Island Games cycling team – a team that includes two of the firm’s lawyers, Rebecca Steens and Louise Woolrich.

The Carey Olsen pair make up half of the women’s cycling team representing Jersey in Gibraltar, which also includes Emily Bridson and Florence Cox. The men’s cycling team comprises Sam Firby, Rhys Hidrio, Rhys Pilley, Jack Rebours and Dave Le Roux.

The firm’s sponsorship of the men’s and women’s teams includes two sets of race kit for each cyclist, as well as helmets and socks. The kit will be used throughout the three events which make up the cycling competition at the Games – the criterium, time trial and road race.

Jersey Cycling team manager Andy Hamon said the support of Carey Olsen was extremely beneficial to each individual’s preparation and performance at the Games.

“We are very grateful to Carey Olsen for its support of the Jersey cycling team. By sponsoring the team’s competitive cycling clothing, which would normally be funded by the individuals themselves, the riders have been able to travel more frequently to off-island competitions in order to better prepare themselves for the events during the Games. Not only that, good quality competition kit is vital for high-level sport, particularly when it comes to competing in a hot climate.

“We are travelling to Gibraltar with a full team, both in strength and in depth. Many of the team have already representedJersey at both Island and Commonwealth Games previously and we hope that this experience will be invaluable. Jersey Cycling has always been successful in both individual and team events and we hope to continue at the Gibraltar Games by bringing home some medals and helping Jersey achieve a high ranking in the overall medal table.”

Carey Olsen partner Chris Philpott commented: “We are delighted to be offering our support to Jersey’s Island Games cycling team. To have one representative in an Island Games team would be special enough, but to have two of our own lawyers making up half of the women’s team is both unusual and tremendously exciting. Carey Olsen wishes Rebecca and Louise, and the rest of the Jersey team the best of luck in Gibraltar.”

The 2019 NatWest International Island Games get underway in Gibraltar on Saturday 6 July and end on Friday 12 July. Cycling is one of 14 sports to be contested by the 24 competing islands.
