Condor to expand local procurement

A wider range of Channel Islands’ produced goods could be on offer across Condor’s fleet and in the ports served through an initiative being launched this month.

The ferry company is inviting applications from pan-island businesses, including Sark and Alderney, to supply items either locally made or produced that are suitable for sale at its onboard retail outlets, restaurants and port cafes. These will be considered at procurement meetings to be held in Guernsey and Jersey later this Summer.

Paul Luxon, Condor’s CEO, said he wanted visitors to experience or taste Channel Islands’ quality before they reach their destination and on their way home again and hoped to see a positive response from the initiative.

“We have always looked to list and promote local items and currently stock a small range onboard Rapide, Clipper and Liberation but would like to extend this to showcase to visitors the best the Islands can offer. As a company with over 72 years’ history locally ourselves, we are keen to work in partnership with other businesses and are planning ahead for the 2020 season.”

The procurement process requires applicants to submit requests by email and then attend a meeting in either Guernsey or Jersey where their locally made or produced items will be considered.

Mr Luxon added,’”Whilst we cannot guarantee any listings at this stage as any new product would have to be compliant with regulations for sale on-board, a good fit commercially and the additional consideration of logistics, we are optimistic of seeing an increased range on offer through this initiative.”

Applicants are invited to submit requests via [email protected] by 31 July and the meetings will be scheduled in August/September.
