Bright Futures LBG are holding a free event open to the public and in particular, targeted at those considering standing at the next election, to stress the importance of up skilling or re-skilling and job creation as a vital ingredient to our recovery and prosperity.
The event, kindly supported by Grant Thornton, will be held at Les Cotils on 25 th August 2020 between 5.30-6.30pm and will provide insights from the recent Bright Futures LBG Spotlight on Human Capital Survey conducted across the Bailiwick.
Established in June 2018, Bright Futures LBG have worked with partners such as the OECD and others to provide evidence based insights of the risks and opportunities associated with developments in technology and automation, population management, our shifting demographics and a shortage of technical and soft skills which have restricted growth and have proven expensive in lost opportunity costs.
COVID 19 and the subsequent Government imposed lockdown have in many ways highlighted how fragile we are as a small, undiversified economy which has suffered from minimal growth for some time. We now have approximately 3,000 people unemployed (Including those not on the social security register) trying to find alternative employment as we enter a recessionary period – something that Guernsey has never really had to cope with before.
This, coupled with a lack of relevant current skills required by business, is leading to a challenging future. We are keen to provide practical insights and actions that all members of our community can respond to in order to ensure a bright future.
