Jersey National Park promotions support local businesses and tourism

In support of Visit Jersey’s Rediscover Home campaign, Jersey National Park is launching two new initiatives aiming to inspire people to explore and enjoy the beauty right on their doorsteps. There is a photo competition in which the public are invited to post their best photos of their favourite spots or perhaps the spots that were most fun to get to.

The second initiative is Picnic in the Park sponsored by Islands. Local restaurants have signed up to pack a picnic to be ordered in advance, made from predominately local produce, for the public to take to their favourite spot in the Jersey National Park.

Jersey National Park was sparked by a peaceful protest in 2009 objecting to the volume of development taking place on the island. Two years after the protest the National Park was endorsed by the States of Jersey and now covers 2,145 hectares
with strict development rules in place.

Jim Hopley, Chairman of Jersey National Park, said: “Jersey National Park in conjunction with the Hospitality Association and Genuine Jersey are only too pleased to support Visit Jersey’s Rediscover Home campaign by launching two major initiatives supported by significant sponsorship from Islands for which we are most grateful”.

Hopley continued: “During the month of August, we are inviting islanders as we exit much of lock-down to get out into nature for some headspace, exercise, fresh air and to appreciate all the National Park has to offer. Families, groups of friends and even organisations are invited to organise a Picnic in the Park, self-created or bought in from local hospitality suppliers. As a bonus, individuals are encouraged to record their events and share photographs of their favourite place in the Park, or somewhere they have newly discovered with an explanation as to why they feel it worthy. There are prizes to be won and much enjoyment to be had so get organised and enjoy”.

Jersey National Park has worked with Genuine Jersey and Jersey Hospitality to create the promotions and secure the buy of local hospitality businesses keen to take part. John Garton, CEO Genuine Jersey, said: “The thought of enjoying a Genuine Jersey picnic in our beautiful and varied National Park on a sunny summers day is part of what makes Jersey special, we are fully behind this initiative”.

Simon Soar, CEO Jersey Hospitality Association, said: “The JHA is delighted to be able to support this event. It’s a great opportunity to not only have our National Park explored, but also to sample some amazing picnic options from our local businesses”.
