The start of the year has seen a host of changes at Appleby including a new group managing partner for the firm and two new corporate partners in the Channel Islands.

The firm has recently welcomed Stuart Tyler (pictured) as partner in the Guernsey office and Mark Brady as group partner in the Jersey office to strengthen its Channel Island corporate teams.

In Appleby’s Guernsey office, Jeremy Berchem has been appointed as office managing group partner.

Advocate Stuart Tyler, who also takes up the position of group head within the corporate department in Guernsey, joins Appleby after working in Guernsey for the last 14 years, having previously been a partner at Stephenson Harwood LLP in London.

Stuart specialises in fund raising, acquisitions, debt finance, financial services regulatory matters, insolvency, shareholder arrangements, insurance structures and the commercial aspects of trusts and foundations law.

Stuart said: “I am delighted to join a growing team in Guernsey and build on the excellent reputation they have in the financial services sector.”

Mark Brady was in private practice in Scotland before working in-house at Deutsche Bank and latterly with Standard Life Aberdeen plc.  Mark specialises in banking and finance, with a particular interest in FinTech.

Mark said: “I’m proud to be joining Appleby and to be working with such a dynamic and energetic team. The firm’s reputation is first-class and I’m looking forward to being part of their respected commercial and regulatory practices.”

Malcolm Moller, Appleby’s group managing partner said: “We are delighted to welcome Stuart and Mark. This is a great boost to our established Guernsey and Jersey teams and it further strengthens our ability to offer a seamless, multi-jurisdictional service to clients from our unique Crown Dependency network. Together their combined wealth of experience and vast knowledge of Guernsey and Jersey law is an invaluable asset, which enhances Appleby’s position in the offshore legal industry and in the Channel Islands.”

As well as the Channel Island corporate appointments, Appleby has announced a number of high profile internal appointments across its jurisdictions, including Malcolm Moller as the new group managing partner. Malcolm has been with Appleby since 2003 and will continue his current role as managing partner of the firm’s Mauritius and Seychelles offices alongside his new responsibilities.

Malcolm said: “It’s an honour and a privilege to lead Appleby. I have worked at Appleby for over seventeen years and so I know the hard work and dedication which is a hallmark of our firm. I am proud to be leading a team of talented and committed people working across all of our global locations.”

Appleby’s newly elected board also includes James Gaudin who is a corporate partner in the Jersey office.
