If we ever needed happiness, it is at a time like this, when bad news far outweighs good.

With this in mind, and to mark International Day of Happiness today, Friday 20 March, Investec has teamed up with world-renowned happiness expert Dr Andy Cope to produce a series of short videos that share some unique insights into the importance of happiness.

Each of the three exclusive videos encourages us to take 20 minutes to explore the theme of happiness and are aimed at primary and secondary school pupils and adults, specifically here in Guernsey.

The videos have been shared with schools across the island in preparation for International Day of Happiness, while the third video will be posted on Investec’s LinkedIn channel this morning.

The initiative follows Andy’s successful visit to the Bailiwick last year when he presented his insights into happiness to audiences comprising parents and teachers, school children and Investec’s clients.

Brendan Stewart, managing director of Investec Bank Channel Islands Limited, said: “During a period of adversity and uncertainty, there’s never been a more important time to nurture happiness here in the Bailiwick.

“That’s why we are so pleased to be bringing Andy back to Guernsey and enabling him to share some more of his valuable insights with the local community.

“We all need to investigate how we can safeguard happiness for ourselves and those around us, and Investec is thrilled to be part of that process.”

Andy Cope said: “It’s great to be teaming up with Investec again. I was really pleased with how responsive islanders were to my visit last year so I’m happy to be back, albeit virtually!

“While it’s impossible not to acknowledge the severity of the current climate, it’s worth pointing out point out the medical benefits of happiness.

“Happy people catch flu less often and, when they do catch it, they get over it much quicker. What’s more, when you’re happy your emotions positively impact on those around you so you’re potentially inoculating your nearest and dearest too!

“Hopefully the videos will help to give everyone a lift, wherever they’re learning and working.”

The third video, which is aimed at adults, will be available to view this morning via Investec’s LinkedIn channel: www.linkedin.com/company/investec-ci/
