A Guernsey-based mail order flower company is having its best festive season in years, as the deadline approaches for customers to place orders in time for Christmas delivery.
Guernsey Flowers Direct, based in St Peter, is working around the clock to ensure orders are dispatched before the last guaranteed posting day this Wednesday.
It comes five years after the closure of the so-called VAT loophole which saw many fulfilment firms which had opened in the island relocate elsewhere because the UK government closed down the tax advantage, formally known as Low Value Consignment Relief.
But, rather than see the end of LVCR as a problem, the boss of Guernsey Flowers Direct says it’s allowed them to flourish and benefit from their true island roots.
Amber Rondel said: “At this time of year, customers have remained loyal and the quality of flowers we grow in Guernsey, together with the familiarity with the Guernsey brand, has actually been responsible for an upturn in business.”
“We are fast running out of freesia, but supplies should just about be okay until we take last orders for Christmas flowers on 20th December.”
