The 2024 independent audit of Jersey’s mobile mast sites confirms that emissions remain within internationally recognised safe levels for the general public.
The annual audit, commissioned by the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority (the Authority), was carried out by independent experts, Freshwave, during September.
This year, 19 sites were tested, covering masts from all operators in several urban and rural locations, including eight that had not been previously tested. All were found to be well below the safety limits for the public as set out in guidance which is laid down by the International Commission for Non-Ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP).
Emissions from two of the masts tested did stand out over previous years, however these remained well within guidelines, and the Authority will be working closely with operators to ensure that these sites are carefully managed in the next year and they will be audited again in 2025.
Robin Hogge, Technical Case Officer, said: “We are pleased to report that emissions remain within international guidelines on safe levels. This audit is an important demonstration of the work we do in conjunction with the operators to ensure that Jersey’s telecoms sector is safe and well regulated. We again thank operators for their positive engagement and looking ahead to 2025, we plan to include within the audit the first sites operating 5G services.”
