ArtHouse Jersey and the 13th Parish Jersey International Film Festival have partnered to offer a new £10,000 award to support early to mid-career Jersey filmmakers.
The award will provide funding for a local filmmaker to produce an original short film, alongside mentorship and the opportunity to premiere the finished work at the 13th Parish Jersey International Film Festival in May 2027.
Made possible through a private donation, the initiative aims to support the development of local filmmaking talent and help filmmakers progress their careers.
Applicants must be resident in Jersey or have a clear and active connection to the Island. Proposed films should be predominantly shot in Jersey and must not have entered production.
Organisers are seeking projects that demonstrate originality, a distinctive creative vision and the potential to reach audiences through the film festival circuit. Applicants must also show that their projects can realistically be completed within the available budget and timeframe.
Applications will be assessed by an independent judging panel comprising representatives from ArtHouse Jersey and the 13th Parish Jersey International Film Festival, alongside an independent film industry professional. The panel will consider creative strength, feasibility, audience potential and the filmmaker’s career development.
Tom Dingle, Chief Executive of ArtHouse Jersey, said: “Jersey has talented filmmakers with stories worth telling and through a generous private donation, we want to help them bring those stories to life.
“We’re really pleased to be partnering with 13th Parish Jersey International Film Festival, whose work has been so important in developing the Island’s film community. Together, we hope this award will give local filmmakers the support, confidence and opportunity to take the next step in their careers. We encourage anyone with a strong idea and plan for a short film to apply.”
Úna Langlois, Co-Director and Film Programmer for the 13th Parish Jersey International Film Festival, said: “We are thrilled to collaborate with ArtHouse Jersey in this new initiative, something that will have impact and serve to encourage filmmakers in Jersey.
“Throughout the seven years of the festival, in showcasing filmmaking talent, we have seen the great potential for a new wave of Jersey filmmaking. Short film is a great art form in itself, and this award is designed to encourage original Jersey voices.
“We look forward to the film project arising from this award and to screening it at our festival in May.”
