Craig Marett, Vaiie’s Product Development Manager, is in the hot seat today, reflecting on how 2020 has been for him both personally and professionally, his idea of a good Christmas and his hopes for 2021.
How has this year been for you personally?
Fantastic – I got to see my son take his first steps in April. I’m appreciating the little things in life, like watching my garden grow whilst working from home and I seemed to avoid all the bugs/colds that I normally would have had!
How has this year been for you professionally?
I was fortunate that Vaiie was already running as a cutting-edge digital business, utilising the latest communication channels, SaaS applications and hardware, and working with the best providers globally who were able to support us in our new way of working. However, it was challenging, and I missed the closeness we had between us as a team.
What’s your ‘hot take’ for 2020?
It’s important to appreciate the precious moments you have with people and the simple things in life.
Tell us your hopes for 2021
I really hope that the borders open up, the need to isolate ends and we can get away to see the amazing places around the world.
What would you like to see the States of Jersey focus on first in 2021?
Getting sports clubs and schools fully operating again without restrictions. Whilst children and people often make do and get on with life, fixing these two areas will really help people start to learn, enjoy closeness and socialise again.
What does a perfect Christmas for you look like?
Waking up early with excited kids moving about the house, seeing smiles on everyone’s faces as they open presents and having the family around the table tucking into a huge turkey.
Do you prefer Christmas or New Year?
Christmas. I have three children and seeing their excitement is something you can’t not look forward to.
What’s your favourite Christmas movie?
Bad Santa – I love Billy Bob Thornton’s acting style.
Are you ready for Christmas or do you wait until the last minute to get organised?
I’m always ready – leaving plans and shopping until the last minute would leave me way too anxious!
What would you like Santa to leave under the tree for you this year?
A friend gave me his old marine aquarium recently (yes, a sea water one for Nemo and Dory), so I would love a few bits and pieces to get this up and running.
