With less than two weeks left until the JHA Gala Dinner, now is a good time to reflect on the amazing work being done by the island’s hospitality industry and why it deserves recognition and celebration.
Our industry has an enormous impact on so many aspects of Jersey life. It influences Jersey’s public transport system, for example, and it’s central to Jersey’s vibrant lifestyle. Some of the things that make the island such an attractive place to live would be seriously affected if we did not have the level of tourism that we enjoy.
Since its creation in 1957, it’s been the mission of the Jersey Hospitality Association (JHA) to provide a single, powerful voice to represent and support the island’s hospitality industry. We are fortunate to have the Chamber of Commerce, which does an excellent job of representing its members. However, while there are issues that all of the members face together, the Chamber represents a diverse range of industries, and their interests don’t always align.
From the point of view of the JHA, our job is to solely focus on doing the best for our industry, and obviously the island too. It’s been our longstanding aim to represent its wishes, desires and aims, make sure its voice is heard, and ensure the value of the industry to the island’s wider economy is understood.
For the first time ever, we’ll be giving awards at the JHA Gala Dinner because we believe it’s important to celebrate local hospitality. Our industry faces pressures and difficulties, but it always has done – this is nothing new for us. But there is some incredible work being done and some absolutely superb representation within the industry, despite the hardships.
This is why we need to recognise and celebrate the work done by the industry and the contribution it makes to our island.
- The JHA Gala Dinner is on 18 October. Please email Simon on [email protected] for more information or to book tickets.
