We know that for most people, weddings are synonymous with summer. A time for light, floaty fabrics, chilled fizz and warm summer nights. But guess what? Autumn is a great time to get married too and if you read on, we’ll tell you why.
The weather is kinder
Summer’s great and all, but once the mercury in the thermometer starts pushing into the high 20s, you have to consider protecting your gown from perspiration, your make-up from running in the heat and looking like a beetroot in the photos.
You can still enjoy light evenings in Autumn and while great weather can’t be guaranteed, many a summer wedding has been the scene of an epic downpour. The advantage you have with autumn is that you’re more prepared for a little unpredictability on the weather front.
Nature is incredibly beautiful in autumn
As the year progresses and the bright florals of summer start to wane, in comes a more rich, yet subtle palette of colours from Mother Nature. And you can totally capitalise on this in your choice of gown colour and the colour themes for your bridesmaids, groomsmen and floral displays.
Big, blowsy floral displays are really fashionable right now and what better way to make the most of that than bringing in autumn colours and textures into your bouquet, the arrangements for the ceremony and the reception venues? Incorporate organic yellows, oranges and burnished shades, offset by dark greens and berry tones into your colour scheme for a truly cosy, autumnal feel. We say beautiful and classy.
Summer is all smoked salmon and fizz. Autumn is mulled cider, tiny warm pasties filled with delicious spiced pork or pumpkin that you can hold in your hands and chomp on as you celebrate. Autumn weddings are a great excuse to go rustic with your menu – consider dinky fish and chips, pizza, hot chocolate spiked with rum or brandy. The days may be warm but the evenings are all about cosiness and warmth and you can absolutely tick this box with your menu.
Fabulous wedding wear
If you aren’t keen on exposing large amounts of your skin, autumn is a fantastic time of year to get married. The days may be beautiful and sunny, but there’s a nip in the air that means you can consider sleeves and capes without worrying about being too hot.
You can also incorporate the beauty of the season into your gown, think vines, leaves, berries in seasonal colours to really create a magical feel for your wedding look. If high heels aren’t your thing, you could also consider some beautiful boots or do away with the gown altogether and think about an autumnal two-piece or jumpsuit for your wedding wear instead. Accessorize with a fantastic hat or crown entwined with vines and you’re good to go.
