‘Pull together’ at rowathon
‘Pull together’ for islanders affected by cancer with Standard Bank Offshore and Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey.
Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey’s annual Rowathon is back! This year it is kindly supported by Standard Bank Offshore, and the local charity are asking corporates, community groups and businesses alike to ‘pull together’ and support islanders affected by cancer.
After the success of last year’s event, which raised just shy of £15,000, the community fundraising staple is back on Saturday March 08th at The Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel.
Teams of six people will row the equivalent distance of Jersey to Sark (30,000m) on an indoor rowing machine. This year, local technology experts Vaiie are collaborating with Macmillan to bring a fresh, innovative approach to how teams compete, with live results being broadcast.
Kevin Alway, Operations and Communications Lead for Macmillan Jersey, said: “We’d like to thank Standard Bank Offshore for supporting this event and helping ensure our services remain free to anyone in Jersey affected by cancer. We’d also like to thank the wealth of local businesses, gyms and groups who support us by entering teams and assisting on the day. With one in two of us hearing the words ‘you have cancer’ in our lifetime – community events such as our Rowathon help us provide vital emotional, practical and wellbeing support to anyone in Jersey affected by cancer.”
Charles Molteno, Chief Executive and Island Head, Jersey, Standard Bank Offshore said: “Cancer touches the lives of so many, directly or indirectly, and at Standard Bank Offshore, we recognise the importance of supporting the essential inspiring work that Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey does for our community. The Rowathon is a truly wonderful example of how we can come together to make a tangible difference for islanders affected by cancer. We’re proud to sponsor this event and to play our part in ensuring that anyone in Jersey facing cancer has access to the emotional, practical, and wellbeing support they need. Together, we can make a real impact.”
This year, the teams will each aim to raise £1,000 between them, with the charity providing teams with a fundraising pack to support their efforts. All the money raised from this event will go directly to those affected by cancer here in Jersey. The charity is hoping that the event will raise over £20,000 to go towards funding their cancer support at The Lido Medical Centre.
