Jersey College for Girls’ Youth Theatre presents Blood Brothers
Jersey College for Girls is pleased to be presenting Blood Brothers (play version) by Willy Russell next month.
Our cast will take to the stage from Tuesday 3rd to Thursday 5th December at 19:30 in JCG Hall.
Directed by our Head of Drama, Caroline Stone, and Drama Teacher, Katie Stirk, JCG’s vision for ‘Blood Brothers’ has been shaped across a number of years.
“Students in Year 9 have studied the play every spring for about 8 years, and we have always thought it would be great to produce the play in its entirety,” Mrs Stone and Miss Stirk explained. “The main factor that put us off though, was that it is a play about brothers, and we are an all-girls’ school. We decided to overcome this by simply removing boys from the equation – girls play boys all the time at JCG after all!”
The roles of the twin brothers, Mickey and Edward, as well as that of Linda, have been triple cast, allowing students from Year 8 to Sixth Formers to be involved in the production.
“We have added two ominous narrators and a large ensemble into the mix, to spice things up and make the action extra tense,” the Directors said. “Imposing all of this against the contrasting backgrounds of Liverpool, with its grand and impressive Liver Building and its rougher edged outskirts, we hope to immerse you in the world of the twins and their very different mothers.”
