EDABL Guernsey, also known as Eat, Drink and Be Local, is launching a new membership scheme for local producers who promote traceability and sustainability.
The organisation, which champions local produce both in the Bailiwick and abroad, is asking potential members to apply online through its new website which launches in early March.
‘Guernsey’s plethora of local produce is no accident, whether it’s caught, grown, reared or produced, Guernsey’s reputation for incredible food, drink and local art, craft and talent is something that needs to be celebrated,’ said the group’s chairperson, Charlotte Dickson.’
‘EDABL members could be restaurateurs using local produce wherever available, artisan food and beverage producers or crafters who use local products to produce their masterpieces.’
Members must demonstrate their commitment to traceability, using local ingredients or materials, and must use local skills for anything nurtured, manufactured of produced. Other criteria include promoting environmental values and adhering to all relevant regulatory standards.
Vendors with products for sale can sign up as members, whereas vendors who promote member products can register as associates.
‘Our members will proudly display the Eat, Drink and Be Local brand, which will underpin all publicity, marketing and support available to them,’ said Charlotte.
‘EDABL membership announces to the world that sustainability, provenance and quality are all top of your agenda.’
In addition to marketing materials and support, members will have the opportunity to take part in member events, and will be included in the new EDABL Arena, a members-only designated vendors’ area, at this year’s Seafront Sunday events.
Seafront Sundays will take place on 24 May, 21 June, 26 July and 9 August. The Food Festival will finish the season off on 30 and 31 August.
