Guernsey and the 2019 Eat Drink & Be Local Food Festival on Saturday 28 September 2019 will see food enthusiasts and lovers pitting their competitive and taste buds against each other in a series of culinary competitions on Crown Pier as Guernsey celebrates the 2019 Food Festival.
First up will be the heats of local sausage-making competition. Four sausage-making heats will see spectators and punters pit their skills & sausage expertise against each other. Who will have the best made sausages? Who will major in flavour and taste and who will be adding that “je ne sais quoi?” Two heats will take place on Saturday morning and two in the afternoon. Entries will be judged and prizes award awarded to those entries that make truly ‘make the grade.’
Remaining with the competitive spirit, food enthusiasts and local residents and visitors will have the opportunity on Saturday 28 September to participate in Guernsey’s inaugural apple pressing competition. Tis the season for the apple harvest as James & Emma Meller, growers and producers of Rocquettes Cider literally work every hour around the clock, you can get into the apple pressing competitive spirit. There will be four heats, two in the morning and two in the afternoon, to see who is King or Queen of the apple press!
One of Guernsey’s (almost) best kept secrets is the fire, heat and flavours of Rick and Nong’s home-grown chillies. Can you take heat? Can you keep a lid on the fire and who is going to be crowned Chief Chill? Get yourself down to Crown Pier on Saturday 28 September 2019 and sample the different grades of chillies – all grown in Guernsey.
The competitive culinary action starts at 11:00 on Saturday 28 September on the Crown Pier and finishes at 17:00 before everything is reset for the evening fun and entertainment. Entrance to the Eat Drink & Be Local Food Festival is free … and watch this space for the full programme on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September 2019.
