
Risk Officer
We are seeking a dedicated Risk Officer to join our Risk and Compliance team at Skipton International Limited. This role involves assisting and providing support, challenge, and guidance in the management of Prudential Risk. The successful candidate will help maintain Risk Policies and frameworks, ensuring Skipton operates within its risk appetites.
Key Accountabilities
- Assist with the risk management framework, ensuring progress against plan is monitored, reported, and managed.
- Work towards achieving a comprehensive understanding and adherence to industry and regulatory standards, including credit risk policy, operational risk policy, treasury policy, and other risk policies.
- Collaborate with the Risk Manager and relevant stakeholders to ensure delivery of plans.
- Maintain a good understanding of current and future business needs, emerging risks, and issues related to credit, operational, and other risk responsibilities.
- Assist in maintaining the Lending, Operational Risk, Group Risk Management Framework, and Risk Appetite Policies.
- Support the production of analysis and papers for various committees, including the Executive Risk Committee and Lending Committee.
- Provide accurate and timely expertise and advice that aligns with organisational and customer/stakeholder requirements.
- Ensure risks are robustly anticipated, mitigated, and managed.
- Provide support, subject matter expertise, challenge, and feedback to the 1st line in relation to risk events.
- Assist in the design and delivery of credit and operational risk training and awareness programmes.
- Seek to continually improve processes and systems within Risk, considering regulatory requirements and efficiency optimisation.
- Complete all mandatory training within defined timescales.
- Build effective relationships and receive supportive feedback.
Essential requirements
- Experience working in a Risk, Credit, or Financial function (1st/2nd line role) within a Financial Services organisation.
- Proven track record of achieving results, including working towards a relevant professional qualification.
- Degree level education or equivalent professional and/or vocational qualifications/training/accreditation (a Risk and/or Accountancy qualification are desirable).
- Ability to engage and work in partnership with key stakeholders.
- Commitment to role modelling behaviours and ways of working that align with Skipton values.
- Proven ability in identifying and documenting risks and designing or recommending appropriate management controls.
- Ability to analyse and interpret wide-ranging business information, summarise, identify recommendations, and produce management reports.
- Ability to understand business strategy and articulate the link to risk.
- Knowledge of tools, techniques, and practices for managing operational risk in a Financial Services organisation, including awareness of relevant regulations.
- Working knowledge of Credit, Operational, and other Risk Frameworks within a Financial Services organisation.
Desirable:
- Risk and/or accountancy qualification.
- Skills and experience in planning, managing, and evaluating change projects.
- Skills and experience in process evaluation and improvement (e.g., LEAN).
- Knowledge of other risk types and how they relate to Credit, Financial, or Operational Risk.
- Understanding of the calculation of Operational Risk Capital for a Financial Services organisation.
- Understanding of the ICAAP process, including stress testing and scenario analysis.
- Involvement with committees in a Financial Services organisation.
