SUMMARY:IoD Develop: Leadership and Strategy in the Third Sector
DESCRIPTION:The Institute of Directors (IoD) Guernsey Branch will host a Develop workshop, titled Leadership and Strategy in the Third Sector, on Thursday 5 November 2026 at Nutmeg.\nHeld to mark National Trustees Week (9–13 November), the session will feature a fireside conversation between His Excellency Sir Richard Cripwell, Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey, and Phil Eyre, Founder of leadership consultancy, Leaders.\nDesigned for charity trustees, chairs, CEOs and senior board members, this interactive workshop will explore the unique challenges of leading charitable and voluntary organisations.\nThe event, sponsored by Skipton International, will cover how effective boards maintain a clear strategic focus through uncertainty and change, the skills and behaviours that make trustees effective and how to lead and influence others when formal authority is limited.\nSpeakers will be drawing on lessons from military, public service and charitable leadership, the conversation will be followed by audience discussion and questions, giving attendees practical ideas they can apply immediately within their own organisations and boards.\nSir Richard became Lieutenant Governor in 2022, following a 40-year career in the British Army with the Royal Engineers. Phil Eyre is a leadership coach, who has served on several charity boards and works with senior executives and boards across the Channel Islands and London.\nGlen Tonks, Chair of IoD Guernsey, said: “This workshop responds directly to feedback from our members, who told us they wanted practical development opportunities focused on leadership, strategy and board effectiveness. Guernsey charities play a vital role in island life, and we’re delighted to mark National Trustees Week with a session that gives leaders the chance to learn from two outstanding professionals.”\nThe session is aligned with the IoD Competency Framework, combining strategic thinking, governance insight and practical lessons on leading people and organisations in the third sector.\nThis event is kindly being sponsored by Skipton International.\n
