SUMMARY:Museum of the Moon
DESCRIPTION:ArtHouse Jersey is inviting Islanders to experience the wonder of the Moon this autumn as it brings internationally acclaimed artist Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon to Jersey as part of the Butterfield Public Art Series.\nFrom Sunday 15 to Sunday 29 November, the spectacular six-metre illuminated artwork will be suspended inside St Helier Methodist Centre, transforming the familiar space and inviting visitors to experience the Moon from an entirely new perspective. The installation will be free to visit, with no booking required, offering everyone in Jersey the opportunity to experience this spectacular artwork.\nFeaturing highly detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface, Museum of the Moon combines light and a specially created soundscape to offer visitors a new perspective on Earth’s closest celestial neighbour. The artwork has been presented more than 350 times in over 40 countries, appearing everywhere from London’s Natural History Museum and Glastonbury Festival to the Commonwealth Games in Australia.\nAlongside the artwork itself, Moon will feature a varied programme of events and creative experiences, offering Islanders different ways to gather beneath the Moon throughout its two-week stay. Further details of the programme will be announced in the coming weeks.\nThe arrival of Moon follows the success of Jerram’s Floating Earth, which attracted more than 31,000 visitors during its presentation in Jersey. It also builds on ArtHouse Jersey’s experience of bringing major public artworks to the Island, including Bubbletecture and Kaarina Kaikkonen’s Dancing Together, creating opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience art together.\nEveryone is welcome to spend time beneath the Moon’s gentle glow, take a moment to pause and enjoy this extraordinary artwork, completely free of charge and no booking required:\n\nSunday 15 November, open 3pm – 9pm (last entry 8.45pm)\nMonday 16 & Monday 23 November, open 9am – 6.30pm (last entry 6.15pm)\nTuesday 17 & Tuesday 24 November, open 9am – 6.30pm (last entry 6.15pm)\nWednesday 18 & Wednesday 25 November, open 9am – 4pm (last entry 3.45pm)\nThursday 19 & Thursday 26 November, open 9am – 9pm (last entry 8.45pm)\nFriday 20 & Friday 27 November, open 9am – 9pm (last entry 8.45pm)\nSaturday 21 & Saturday 28 November, open 9am – 9pm (last entry 8.45pm)\nSunday 22 & Sunday 29 November, open 9am – 9pm (last entry 8.45pm)\n\nChief Executive of ArtHouse Jersey, Tom Dingle, said: “Following the incredible response to Floating Earth, we’re looking forward to bringing another of Luke Jerram’s extraordinary artworks to Jersey. With Moon, we’re continuing our commitment to bringing ambitious international art to Jersey and making it accessible to everyone, free of charge. We’re particularly looking forward to seeing St Helier Methodist Centre transformed and welcoming people who might never normally think of visiting an art exhibition.”\nMichelle Le Blond, Butterfield Jersey Branch Manager, said: “Through the Butterfield Public Art Series, we’re proud to continue our partnership with ArtHouse Jersey, supporting ambitious public art projects that are accessible to the whole community.
