SUMMARY:Volunteer Community Work Project Launch 2027: Global Citizenship in Action
DESCRIPTION:Jersey Overseas Aid (JOA) is inviting Islanders to learn how they can contribute to sustainable development overseas through its 2027 Volunteer Programme at an event taking place on Wednesday 30 September 2026 at the Royal Yacht Hotel.\nJOA’s volunteer programme is built on long term partnerships with organisations that understand community priorities, ensuring volunteers contribute to locally identified needs and sustainable development outcomes. The event will introduce JOA’s 2027 volunteering opportunities and provide an insight into how Islanders can work alongside communities overseas through ethical and impactful volunteering.\nAttendees will hear directly from former volunteers and members of the JOA team about the realities of volunteering overseas, including the challenges, rewards and opportunities for personal and professional growth.\nFor more than 50 years, Jersey volunteers have supported locally led projects in countries including Malawi, Kenya, Nepal and Zambia helping to tackle poverty and create lasting impact. Guided by the Global Volunteering Standard, JOA’s programme ensures volunteering is ethical, responsible and delivers sustainable impact for both communities and volunteers.\nDeputy Carolyn Labey, Minister for International Development and Chair of JOA, said: “Volunteering is one of the most powerful ways to build global understanding and solidarity. Jersey volunteers work alongside communities overseas, learning from others and contributing to locally led development. It is an experience that not only supports communities around the world but also brings valuable skills, perspectives and experiences back to Jersey.”\nJOA is looking for people with enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to learn. Volunteers do not need previous experience, just the desire to make a positive contribution as part of a team. Many former volunteers return with fresh perspectives and a stronger sense of global citizenship. Jersey also benefits from volunteers bringing back first-hand experience and connections that enrich the Island community.\nApplications for the 2027 Volunteer Programme will open following the launch event. Applicants must be aged 18 or over and have lived in Jersey for at least five years.\n\nPictured: Malawi 2026\n
