DESCRIPTION:Lighthouse Church is delighted to mark a decade of its annual ‘Nations Sunday’ celebration on 20th September and, this year, it feels particularly important.\nNations Sunday is a special service during which the congregation worships in different languages and prays for all of the nations of the world. After the service, there is a huge bring-and-share lunch – a time for the multi-national congregation to share their favourite dishes and enjoy some valuable community time together.\nNot only is this year a landmark anniversary, but it also feels more important than ever for this type of celebration to happen.\nThe Church notes its intention to create a ‘culture of multi-culturalism’ in its congregation. Despite increasing social isolation, Church communities still offer a space where people of all ages and all backgrounds interact frequently, joined by a common faith and growing in friendship together. This is increasingly important, especially considering a decline in publicly funded community initiatives and increased financial pressures on families.\nLead Pastor Gregg Donaldson said: “We feel so privileged to be one of the more multicultural Churches on the Island, and, as a leadership team, it’s a responsibility that we take seriously.\n“We believe that fostering an environment where everyone is welcome is not just the morally right thing to do, but it’s actually commanded of us in the Bible.  From the dawn of Christianity, the Bible describes a Church that is multicultural on purpose.\n“Our Church is empowered by the mission to spread the Gospel to the whole world, and how could we possibly do this without also welcoming other cultures into our own congregation?\n“We have seen amazing growth in our Church over the last few years. Such sustained growth is relatively uncommon among local groups and, for this reason, we intentionally take time every year to thank God for our multicultural community, to pray for peace and flourishing in all nations around the world, and to spend time enjoying a delicious meal together as a family.”\n
