SUMMARY:Inside Out 18: Artwork from La Moye Prison
DESCRIPTION:More than 50 prisoners from La Moye Prison will showcase their artwork as part of Inside Out 18, a new exhibition at ArtHouse Jersey highlighting creativity and rehabilitation.\nThe exhibition, the third collaboration between the States of Jersey Prison Service and ArtHouse Jersey, opens on 11 September and runs until 20 September at Capital House. It will feature paintings, drawings, ceramics, woodwork, crochet and other pieces created over the past year.\nArt forms an important part of the prison’s education programme, helping prisoners develop new skills, build confidence and prepare for life after release. Through creative activities, participants can express themselves, reflect on their experiences and work towards positive change.\nLucy Blackmore, Art Teacher at La Moye Prison, said: “We’re honoured to collaborate with ArtHouse Jersey in presenting this exhibition. The enthusiasm and talent amongst our prisoners continues to grow every year. The opportunity to exhibit their work is a powerful motivator that helps build confidence and encourages participation in education and personal development programmes.”\nThe exhibition also aims to promote greater understanding of rehabilitation by offering visitors an insight into the experiences and perspectives of people in custody.\nHead of Education Sanja Koppen said: “We hope the exhibition encourages visitors to think about rehabilitation and the potential for personal growth. Art can be a powerful tool for self-expression and personal development, helping people rebuild their lives and contribute positively to society.”\nThe States of Jersey Prison Service has thanked ArtHouse Jersey for hosting the exhibition and the Sir James Knott Trust for its sponsorship. A number of artworks will be available to purchase, with proceeds supporting the artists and future creative programmes.\n
