SUMMARY:Student Summit: May 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Digital Greenhouse will host students from across the island, debating how to protect human creativity in the age of AI with Professor Dan Brown from University College London (UCL).\nThe interactive face-to-face event, sponsored by 1st Central, aims to build on student’s understanding of AI and how it is changing the future of work.\nProfessor Brown will run through an AI system developed by UCL on finding IP thefts and then making legal cases around infringements. Following his presentation, the students will debate what constitutes intellectual property generated by a person and how it should be protected.\nProfessor Dan Brown from UCL at last year’s Student Summit\nTaking place from 16:30 until 19.30, there will also be networking opportunities and pizza for the students.\nPart of the Digital Innovators Programme, it gives students fully-funded opportunities to develop as highly skilled and tech literate individuals outside of the classroom. It follows the Hackathon last month which saw the ‘Data Divas’ from The Ladies’ College use AI to design a product solving the problem; how to ensure the older members of Guernsey’s population are cared for and not isolated.\nManager of the Digital Greenhouse and organiser of the events, Estelle Moseley said: “All our programmes are designed with a clear purpose to foster the collaboration and innovation that drives business growth. We see so much potential in these students to use technology for good and it’s our goal at the Digital Greenhouse to ensure those ideas take root, strengthening our island’s economy for years to come.”\n
