SUMMARY:‘Seymour sprint’ and ‘Seymour walk’ in aid of Philip’s Footprints charity
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Seymour Sprint and Seymour Stroll will take place on Saturday 16th May, offering islanders the chance to take on a unique coastal challenge.\nThe original Seymour Sprint is a 10km trail run from Longbeach, Grouville to Seymour Tower and back, crossing the Ramsar wetlands and providing a challenging but rewarding experience. A shorter 6km ‘dry feet’ route follows the beach to Seymour Slip and back. The 6km Seymour Stroll, introduced last\nyear, will also return for those seeking a more relaxed pace.\nNow in its seventh year, the event is organised by Helier de Veulle, who first created it while fundraising for the London Marathon. He explained that planning begins each year around the lowest tides, with this year’s slightly later date expected to bring warmer conditions. The route itself presents several challenges, not least dealing with rugged terrain, crossing the gullies and racing the incoming tide. However, runners have plenty of time to complete the distance and the course is fully marshalled.\nMany marshals and participants have supported the event since its inception, and the organisers are grateful for their continued commitment, as well as the ongoing support of sponsors Slomans Estate Agents.\nThe run is open to children aged 8 and over if accompanied, and participants aged 14–15 may run unaccompanied. Dogs are also welcome. The Seymour Stroll is open to all ages.\nParticipants must register in advance by 6pm on Friday 15th May.\nThe event has raised over £16,000 to date for Philip’s Footprints, a local baby loss and safer pregnancy charity.\nHelier de Veulle said: “You can expect wet feet, big smiles and an unforgettable route. Whether you’re racing or strolling, it’s all about enjoying the experience and supporting a fantastic cause.”\nJo Nash from Philip’s Footprints said: “We are delighted to have the Seymour Sprint as part of our annual fundraising calendar. It’s a unique event set in a beautiful part of Jersey, and we look forward to seeing the community come together once again in support.”\n\nPicture credit: David Priddis\n
